Skin Needling Facial Treatment

Following a deep cleanse, a hydrating serum is applied to smoothly glide the device across the skin. Using a disposable one use only needle cartridge and crisscross technique, micro skin channels stimulate the skins natural repair pathway. The natural repair pathway promotes new collagen formation and accelerates cellular regeneration.

During this treatment most clients feel only mild discomfort. In smaller areas that need a more local focus, such as acne scarring or deep wrinkles, discomfort can be felt for a very short time. The maximum needle depth is 3 mm, it is unnecessary to treat a client all over at this depth.

We recommend booking a late-afternoon appointment, as this will allow for you to go home after your treatment to relax and allow your skin to heal uninterrupted.

Skin Needling FAQs AND CONSENT FORM

So, how are you feeling about skin needling now? Do you still have some unanswered questions about the treatment? Below we have outlined some FAQs to help you out.

Skin Needling Consent Form

AMN Pen is a skin needling procedure that uses 12 surgical grade micro-needles to piece the skin and initiate the skin’s own healing mechanisms. It is used to treat wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and other skin conditions. The procedure requires multiple sequential treatments.

Following your treatment, you may experience, redness, petechiae (broken blood vessels that look like red dots), stinging, itching, warmth, tightness of skin, skin dryness, and minor skin flaking.

These should all resolve within 4-5 days post-treatment.

Risks of this procedure include, but are not limited to, the following;

Pain – some people experience pain with this treatment. Stinging or sharp pain may be present during and after the procedure. It can continue through the healing process until approximately 5 days.

Itching – clients can experience itching during the procedure as well as throughout the healing process.

Swelling – swelling can occur and last for 4-5 days.

Bleeding/Bruising – you may experience some pinpoint bleeding which will probably stop within a few minutes without any lasting effect. You may have residual red dots or petechiae from broken blood vessels. These will resolve without treatment.

Scabbing – a scab may be present if pinpoint bleeding occurs. The scabbing will disappear during the natural wound healing process of the skin. Scarring or discolouration may result from any scab formation.

Allergic Reaction to Topical Skincare Serum – a topical skincare serum is applied during the procedure this helps the device glide across the skin. There is a risk of allergic reaction which can include itching, burning, excessive redness, and swelling. If this happens you should notify the salon immediately.

Flare of Herpes Simplex (Cold Sores) – trauma to the area induced by the AMN pen can trigger a flare of HSV or cold sores. If you have a history of cold sores you should alert your treating therapist and we will advise you to take a dose of antiviral medication to prevent this from happening.

Bacterial Infection – this procedure involves piercing the skin with needles that create open channels. There is a rare risk of bacterial infection. If you notice yellow crusting after the procedure or pus drainage, you should call the salon immediately. Any infection could last 7-10 days and could lead to scarring. You may require antibiotics from your GP to clear this.

Failure to Achieve Desired Results – it is very possible that this procedure may fail to achieve your desired results. Strict adherence to the pre-op and post-op instructions is essential. Multiple sequential treatments are required for maximum benefits.

After the Treatment

Following skin needling the micro channels created stimulate the skin’s own healing response. For the first 12 to 48 hours via the inflammation stage mild redness can be visible and the skin can feel tight. From 48 hours to 2 weeks post treatment the proliferation stage is when the skin cells are replacing themselves so quickly that the skin can feel dehydrated and, in some cases, flaky. This is one of the most important stages to give your skin as much love as possible, keep your skin well hydrated, layer your hydrating serums and apply lots of moisturiser. After 2 weeks you’ll start to see some real visible results, the skin is left brighter, smother and completely dewy. The results of skin needling continue in the months post treatment for 2 weeks to 2 years the remodelling stage of skin healing is when the new collagen tightly bonds together to strength the skin.

Critical Care Post Treatment

Please abide by the following post care to ensure the skins safety while going through the healing process.

  • Do not apply makeup for 12 hours post treatment (after 12 hours use mineral makeup only)
  • Use prescribed home care as instructed for the next 5 – 7 days
  • Avoid active ingredients in your homecare products (Vitamin A, Vitamin C, AHA and BHA) for 5 – 7 days’ post treatment
  • Avoid vigorous exercise, the gym, applying excessive heat to the treated area including saunas, steam baths and hot showers or chlorinated and saltwater pools for 48 hours post treatment
  • Do not pick at peeling skin as this may cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Do not prematurely expose skin to the sun as this may cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Avoid waxing, IPL, laser or depilatory creams for 2 weeks following your treatment
  • Keep the skin well hydrated (prescribed moisturiser and lots of water) as this will support your skin through the healing process
  • Do not touch your face unless necessary, when you do make sure your hands are clean, this will avoid contamination
  • If it’s been a while, change your pillow case before going to bed the day of your treatment to avoid contamination and bacterial infection

Following the treatment, most guests may notice some mild skin redness and inflammation that appears similar to mild sunburn. Guests may also experience some mild bruising or slight pinpoint bleeding. These side effects tend to last for 24-48 hours and can be covered with makeup 12 hours post treatment.

Noticeable results can be seen within a week or two. The skin appears smoother and more radiant, these results will continue to develop over time.

What is the recovery time for skin needling?

The recovery time for skin needling will vary from treatment to treatment. We encourage our guests to nurture their skin for 5-7 days post treatment.

Since the skin enters the inflammation stage for the first 24-48 hours, most guests experience the skin as sensitive and warm.

During the proliferation stage, 2-7 days post treatment, the skin can feel dry and tight – this is due to the rapid cell turnover or old cells being replaced by new cells.

Onwards for 7 days the skin enters the remodeling stage, with some evidence that this stage can last up to 2 years, the cross-linked collagen formation continues to strengthen the skin over time.

Can skin needling treatments be performed on any skin colour?

Yes! Skin needling can be performed on all skin colours and types without risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Is the procedure painful?

Most guests feel mild discomfort during the treatment, guests may experience some mild tenderness for the first 24-48 hours. Thus, following the prescribed homecare will nurture the skin during the post treatment days.

How frequently can I have skin needling done?
Skin needling treatments can be repeated every 2 – 4 weeks. The number of treatments vary depending on the targeted skin concern. Skin rejuvenation – 4 to 6 treatments. Acne scars – minimum 6 treatments. Stretch marks – 4 to 8 treatments.
