FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About IPL Brisbane Hair Removal?
What is IPL? IPL stands for “intense pulsed light”. It is a light therapy and not a traditional laser hair removal Brisbane therapy. It is different to laser in that it uses a spectrum of pulsed light energy. The absorbed light heats the dark hair, which damages and destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle, without damaging the surrounding skin structures.
What to expect during an IPL Brisbane treatment session? The treated area will be cleaned to prepare the skin. The IPL treatment head is then rested on your skin and pulses of light begin destroying your unwanted hair. Each pulse of light will have a slight warming sensation followed by what clients describe as a flick of a rubber band on the skin. The dead hairs will detach from the hair follicles and fall out over the next 2-3 weeks.
Are there any possible side effects? Side effects are rare. However, it is normal to experience some redness of the skin and some very mild follicular swelling (similar to waxing), though this diminishes within a few hours. In rare cases, some scabbing or darker/lighter skin changes may occur, but will generally subside over a short time.
How should I prepare? We ask that you refrain from hot showers, swimming/spa pools and excessive exercise for 24 hours and wear SPF30+ sunscreen on the area treated if it is exposed to the sun.
Limiting sun exposure pre and post treatment will minimize the risk of complications. Following your treatment, most clients will tolerate IPL with minimal discomfort and can immediately return to normal activities.
How many treatments will I need? We recommend a series of 6-8 treatments, preformed every 4-12 weeks.
The number of required treatments depends on the hair and skin colour, the area being treated and hormonal influences. In order to meet your expectations, a customized Brisbane IPL treatment program will be designed for you.
Most people will have effective hair reduction with each treatment, with very little regrowth after the course of treatments is done. Some will get complete hair reduction with no or minimal regrowth, while others will require a yearly maintenance treatment. Any regrowth of hair will be weak, thin, and lighter in colour, due to the damaged hair follicles.
How do I know if IPL is right for me? We offer a comprehensive consultation that takes you through the process of IPL, which includes a patch test so you know what to expect, an approximation of how many treatments required, expert skin analysis and a detailed personal quote.
