Skin Needling Treatments – Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions

Skin Needling

If you experience acne scarring, pigmentation or signs of ageing such as wrinkles or loss of firmness and elasticity, Skin Needling facial treatments could be the solution for you. For many, the idea of Skin Needling is pretty scary (yes, sometimes there is blood). However, in the right hands you will barely feel a thing and you will be amazed by the results.

How Does Skin Needling Work?

Skin Needling is a form of skin rejuvenation, which aims to stimulate the skins natural production of collagen and elastin. Using a 12-stainless steel fine needle cartridge, tiny penetrations are created on the skins surface. The body’s immune system then recognises the small ‘wounds’ and begins the repairing process. The result is smoother, plumper skin and a reduced appearance of scarring and pigmentation. The process of self-repairing can be extremely effective when induced in the correct environment. Whilst the process itself is simple, the technique must be executed with precision to ensure a safe treatment protocol. This is definitely a treatment you want performed by a dedicated therapist who pays close attention to detail.

What Does It Involve?

Here at The Facial Hub, our therapists are expertly trained in the technique of Skin Needling. Following a deep cleanse, a hydrating serum is applied to the skin to help the device guide easily. While you may experience mild vibrations from the device, you will not feel pain or major discomfort. Once the skin is prepared, we then use a crosshatch technique, similar to microdermabrasion. The fine stainless steel needles create micro channels  in the skin.

For the first 24-48 hours after the treatment you may experience redness and inflammation and for the succeeding 3-5 days you may encounter dryness and mild peeling. To nurture your repairing phase post treatment, it is imperative to follow the post care protocol for Skin Needling. There are three non-negotiables; no makeup for 12 hours’, keep the skin moist and steer clear of actives (retinol, fruit acids, etc.) for 5-7 days’ post treatment. We recommend between 4-6 treatments to achieve exceptional results.

Will Skin Needling hurt?

There are several devices on the market for Skin Needling. At The Facial Hub, we use the latest technology. A hydrating serum allows the device to move over the skin freely without dragging and at the same time feeding your skin. The tiny needles move up and down so quickly that you only feel a light vibration, it’s a similar approach to a microdermabrasion facial, it’s safe and comfortable.

What about contamination?

A brand new, sealed tip is used with each treatment. The design of this tip also prevents any skincare product from going up into the tip, which eliminates contamination even further. Skin Needling is a medical procedure and we treat it accordingly, your safety is our number one priority.

Can Skin Needling treatments go wrong?

Skin Needling requires extensive training; our qualified therapists have been expertly trained to attain the required accreditation. We appreciate that every skin type and skin condition is different, therefore it is imperative that your treatment is personalised to your individual needs. Your dedicated therapist will provide an initial consultation, treatment journey plan and post treatment skincare instructions for you to achieve your desired results. Yes, you will experience some downtime with a Skin Needling treatment for a day or two. However, after a series of 4-6 treatments, you will be rewarded with a more firm, plump, glowing complexion.
