Mother’s Day – A celebration for all women, not just mothers.

There’s no denying the importance of recognising the role of those special women in our lives.

Every Mother’s Day we make an extra effort for our Mums, but doesn’t she deserve to feel special every day, and not just on the day that has been singled out?

The tradition of giving gifts on Mother’s Day was started by an Australian woman back in 1923.

Janet Heyden, who lived in Leichhardt, Sydney, was so moved by the lonely and forgotten mothers she saw at a Home for Women, that she began a campaign, raising money to buy them gifts.

Her actions also led to a similar observance on Father’s Day.

Our celebration of Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be limiting to women who are mothers.

If you look up the definition of “Mother”, you’ll find various examples.
